Nepean uses early goal to top Pembroke, 2-1

The Nepean Raiders beat the Pembroke Lumber Kings, 2-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Mitchell Herlihey provided Nepean with the game-winning tally when he scored 17:13 into the the first period. Cory Durocher assisted on the tally.

The win gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Nepean was led by goalie Matt Zawadzki, who finished with 36 saves while allowing one goal.

The Raiders were led by Dalen Hedges, who had one goal. Hedges scored 27 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Nepean. Kenneth Neil picked up the assist.

Nepean excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Raiders kept Pembroke's goalie busy throughout the game, and Darren Smith made 36 saves on 38 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Brent Norris, who had one.

The Lumber Kings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Nepean to score on any of its five power plays. The Raiders were unable to stop Pembroke from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lumber Kings eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Pembroke was led by Stephen Hrehoriak, who scored the team's only goal. Hrehoriak scored short handed 7:09 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Nepean. The Lumber Kings played down a man on Keegan Harper's slashing. Jordan Larson provided the assist.

Nepean incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Pembroke incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
