MacDonald's goals lift Cornwall to 5-2 victory over Brockville

The Cornwall Colts relied on the scoring touch of Lawson MacDonald, who netted two goals, to beat the Brockville Braves, 5-2.

MacDonald found the back of the net 14:44 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cornwall and again while 17:40 into the second to make the score 3-1 Cornwall.

The win gave Cornwall a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Brockville was unable to stop the Colts from sending pucks towards the net, and Cornwall eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Cornwall additionally got points from Kevin Hope, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cornwall also got a goal from Michael Pontarelli as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Brandon Howes, who had two and Carl Belizario, Pietro Antonelli, Marly Quince, Billy Ulrick, Mitch Zion, and Stephen Johnson, who each chipped in one.

The Braves forced the Colts goalie Jordan Piccolino to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Brockville was helped by Joey House, who tallied one goal. House scored on the power play 4:57 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Cornwall. The Braves earned a power play opportunity when Jake Martin was put in the box for tripping. Kevin Kirisits assisted on the tally. Brandon Cole also scored for Brockville. More assists for Brockville came via Shane Riddell, who had one and Chris Roll, who had two.

Piccolino rejected 37 shots on goal for Cornwall. The Colts incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Matthew Jenkins recorded 32 saves for Brockville. The Braves incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
