Smiths Falls holds on for 3-2 win against Carleton Place

The Carleton Place Canadians tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Smiths Falls Bears would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Smiths Falls took a 3-0 lead during the second period, only to have Carleton Place storm back on a Garrett Moore goal 9:17 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

After the loss made the series score 1-3 in the best of seven series, the Canadians face elimination next time out.

Jeffrey Carroll was all over the ice for the Bears, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Carroll found the back of the net 6:55 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls and again while 8:02 into the second to make the score 2-0 Smiths Falls.

Smiths Falls also got a goal from Michael Buonincontri as well. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Chris Maniccia, who had two and Blaine Byron, Nic Marchand, and Peter Soligo, who contributed one a piece.

Carleton Place kept Smiths Falls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Patrick Martin made 43 saves on 45 shots.

The Canadians were helped by Alex Globke, who registered one goal. Globke scored on the power play 13:44 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Smiths Falls. Carleton Place had gotten the advantage when the Bears' Ryan McCaughan was sent off for hooking. Moore provided the assist. Carleton Place additionally got points from Moore, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Larry Smith, Tyson Stewart, and Kelly Summers, who each chipped in one.

Smiths Falls incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Canadians' Brendan Oneill stopped 19 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Carleton Place incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
