Charlie Millen stood on his head and made 28 saves to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 2-1 victory over the Hawkesbury Hawks. The win gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Senators were sparked by Joey Champigny, who racked up one goal. Champigny scored 7:45 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Ottawa. Mike Martin picked up the assist. Ottawa put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Hawkesbury to score on any of its five power plays. The Senators' offense rang up 38 shots on the Hawks' net. Ottawa also got a goal from Chris King as well. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Ryan Collins, Paul Landry, and Greg Jansz, who each chipped in one. Hawkesbury was led by Yanik Laliberte, who scored the team's only goal. Laliberte scored short handed 16:32 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Hawks were on a disadvantage when Ross Kovacs went off the ice for handling the puck. Ottawa incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Carmine Guerriero made 36 saves for Hawkesbury on 38 shots. The Hawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
