GAME RECAP

Leafs hangs on, beats Bruins 2-1

Cedar Rapids Ice Arena    Thu, Oct 04, 2012

Leafs took the lead against Bruins in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-1 victory.

Leafs took over the lead for good with a goal by Josh Scott at 8:00 in the first period. Tim Thomas picked up the assist.

Leafs was paced by Scott, who racked up one goal.

Leafs managed to stay out of the box for the most part, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Even so, Leafs surpassed its low season average of 1.0 penalty minutes per game. Leafs did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting five shots on net to force three saves.

Leafs also got a goal from Joe Winger as well. Other players who recorded assists for Leafs were Bobby Orr, who had one and Ray Bourque, who had two.

Leafs' defense shut down Bruins' forwards for much of the game, and Bruins got off only two shots during the contest.

Bruins was led by Paul Kessell, who scored the team's only goal. Kessell scored on the power play 3:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bruins. A high sticking penalty on Orr had put Bruins on the power play. James Reimer provided the assist.

Thomas recorded one save for Leafs. Leafs registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. Bruins' Reimer stopped three shots out of the five that he faced. Bruins avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored one goal off of one power plays.
