Elmira boosted by Horrigan's play in net, beats Stratford 4-1Dan Snyder Memorial Sun, Feb 26, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Elmira Sugar Kings relied on the sparkling performance of Nick Horrigan in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Stratford Cullitons. Stratford's power play was ineffective against Elmira's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The referees were busy during the game, as 22 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest. The Sugar Kings' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 42 shots put on the Cullitons' net. Elmira had trouble staying out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays. The leading offender was Lukas Baleshta, who totaled six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Elmira also got points from Baleshta, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Pat McKelvie(APJ) also scored for Elmira. In addition, Elmira received assists from Cass Frey, Michael Hasson, and Brett Priestap, who contributed one each and Will Cook and Scott Nagy, who each chipped in two. Stratford was held below its usual level of production. The Cullitons put an average of five pucks into the net per game. The Sugar Kings were unable to stop Stratford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cullitons eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. Stratford's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cullitons finished with 20 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Calvin Thomson, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Stratford was led by Brock Reynolds, who scored the team's only goal. Reynolds scored on the power play 4:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stratford. The Cullitons had taken the advantage when Elmira's Hasson got sent off for roughing. Steven Dol picked up the assist. The Sugar Kings' Horrigan stopped 42 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Elmira registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Taylor Dupuis turned away 38 pucks between the pipes for Stratford.
