Brantford vanquishes Elmira in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brantford Golden Eagles defeated the Elmira Sugar Kings in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout.

Brantford pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The referees were busy during the game, as 16 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest.

The Golden Eagles' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 46 shots put on Elmira's net. Brantford was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of nine man advantages.

The Golden Eagles were helped by Mike Rebry, who tallied one goal. Rebry scored on the power play 12:19 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Brantford. Brantford had gained a power play chance when Lukas Baleshta was whistled for high sticking. Brett Appio provided the assist. Mike Riley also scored for Brantford. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Jeff Swift, Dillan Walker, and Brandon Montour, who each chipped in one.

The Sugar Kings could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Elmira puts an average of four pucks into the net per game. The Golden Eagles were unable to stop the Sugar Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Elmira eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Sugar Kings could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Andrew Smith, who totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one misconduct.

Elmira was led by Brett Priestap, who finished with one goal and one assist. Priestap scored 19:06 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Baleshta assisted on the tally. Elmira also got points from Priestap, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Elmira received assists from Brady Campbell and Riley Sonnenburg, who contributed one each.

Bryce O Hagan recorded 32 saves for Brantford. Nick Horrigan made 43 saves for the Sugar Kings on 45 shots. Elmira registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
