St. Catharines downs Welland in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The St. Catharines Falcons' Kenny Bradford scored 21 seconds into overtime to beat the Welland Jr. Canadians, 4-3 (OT).

Welland's power play was ineffective against St. Catharines' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 21 penalties during the game.

The Falcons' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 55 shots put on the Jr. Canadians' net. St. Catharines was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of nine man advantages. The Falcons could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Tyler Jackson, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

St. Catharines got a goal from Matt Melo as well. More assists for St. Catharines came via Andy Sturtz, who had one and Ben Dubois, who had two.

The Welland penalty box was a busy place as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Canadians surpassed its season average of 20 penalty minutes per game.

Welland was led by Braden Curry, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Curry scored 13:48 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Adam Mataya provided the assist. Welland also got points from Curry, who also had one goal and one assist. Joe Saracini also scored for Welland. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Aaron Beally, Anthony Marra, Matthew Mateljan, and Mike Marquis, who each chipped in one.

Michael Gallardi made 16 saves for St. Catharines on 19 shots. Chris McDougall turned away 51 pucks between the pipes for the Jr. Canadians. Welland ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jason Boag was ejected from the game.
