Brantford vanquishes Guelph in shootout, 6-5 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brantford Golden Eagles defeated the Guelph Hurricanes in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. Guelph's shootout goal was scored by Dylan Wood. Brantford's other shootout goal was scored by Tyler Norrie.

The Golden Eagles saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Brantford made the score 4-1 on a goal by Brett Appio at 9:09 in the second period. The Hurricanes evened things up at 5-5 on a goal by Appio at 12:52 in the third period.

Appio had a great game for the Golden Eagles, netting two goals.

Guelph was unable to stop Brantford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Golden Eagles eventually piled up 51 shots on goal. Brantford had trouble staying out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 18 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays. The leading offender was Mike Riley, who totaled six minutes in penalty time with three minors.

Brantford additionally got points from Tanner Rutland, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Brantford got a goal from Paul Gallucci as well. More assists for Brantford came via Eric Jackson, Nate Mitton, and Brandon Montour, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Brantford power plays.

Guelph was helped by Wood, who racked up two goals and one assist. Wood scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:04 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Brantford. The Hurricanes had gotten the advantage when the Golden Eagles' Andrew Wilson was sent off for tripping. Mitch Klie provided the assist. Wood's next tally on the power play made the score 4-4 with 10:31 left in the third period. Marc Shanks assisted on the tally. Guelph also got points from Shanks, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Wood, who also finished with two goals and one assist, and Klie, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Mike Iacocca also scored for Guelph. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Mike Charbonneau, who had three and Mark Bell, Brandon Stewart, and Jordan Hatzinger, who contributed one each.

Talon DOrazio (APJ) recorded 15 saves for Brantford. Guelph's Colin Furlong stopped 45 shots out of the 50 that he faced. The Hurricanes incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
