Seguin's big game bests Chatham in 6-2 Leamington win

Alex Seguin had two goals and two assists to lead the Leamington Flyers to a 6-2 victory over the Chatham Maroons.

Seguin scored at 32 seconds into the second period to make the score 4-2 Leamington and again while 15:16 into the second to make the score 6-2 Leamington.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 15 penalties during the game.

Leamington kept Chatham's goalie busy throughout the game, and Gianluca Palmieri made 26 saves on 32 shots. The Flyers found themselves short handed often, totaling 17 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays. The leading offender was Brett Langlois, who totaled five minutes in penalty time with one major. The defensemen of Leamington were also effective in the Maroons' zone, and came away with two goals.

Leamington additionally got points from Seguin, who also tallied two goals and two assists and Matt Ogden, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Brett Babkirk also scored for Leamington. More assists for Leamington came via Nicholas Nicodemo and Dakota Olvin, who contributed one each and Austin Mattson and Tyler Quigley, who each chipped in two.

Chatham forced the Flyers goalie Darien Ekblad to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. The Maroons were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 19 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Trevor Richardson, who totaled five minutes in penalty time with one major.

Chatham was helped by Ian Faubert, who registered one goal and one assist. Faubert scored 21 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham. Sam Studnicka provided the assist. Chatham also got points from Studnicka, who also had one goal and one assist and Faubert, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Michael Verboom, who had one.

Ekblad turned away 41 pucks between the pipes for Leamington. The Flyers registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Leamington ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Langlois was ejected from the game. For the Maroons, Richardson was ejected from the game.
