Behind a great game by Kelly Barchan, who had two goals and two assists, the Thorold Blackhawks defeated the Fort Erie Meteors, 8-1. Barchan scored at 6:27 into the second period to make the score 6-0 Thorold and again while 7:14 into the second to make the score 7-0 Thorold.Thorold was led by goalie Blake Richard, who finished with 38 saves while allowing one goal. Richard certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.63 entering the contest. The Blackhawks made Meteors' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 46 shots and forcing 38 saves. Matt Stuart made 32 stops and Connor Visca made six. Thorold put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Fort Erie to score on any of its eight power plays. The Blackhawks' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Thorold averages three goals per contest. The Blackhawks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. Thorold could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. Thorold also got points from Anthony Scornaienchi, who also had one goal and one assist, Robert MacFarlane, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Barchan, who also registered two goals and two assists. Robert Bentavegna also scored for Thorold. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Tanner Hildebrandt, who had three, Gabe Ruggi, Kyle Leto, and Colt Kennedy, who contributed one each, and Owen Sobchak, Ed Creighton, and Greg Cerilli, who each chipped in two. The Meteors' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 39 shots put on the Blackhawks' net. Fort Erie struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Thorold to score two power play goals on three chances. The Meteors were led by Eric Muntz, who scored the team's only goal. Muntz scored 16:48 into the third period to make the score 8-1 Thorold. Richard DeMarco provided the assist. Fort Erie ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. For the Meteors, Jordan Bolibruck was ejected from the game.
