Dartch nets hat trick, leads London to 6-3 win over St. Marys

A hat trick by Aaron Dartch was the highlight in Nationals' 6-3 win against the St. Marys Lincolns.

Dartch notched his first tally 5:07 into the third period. He then added goals at 12:01 into the third and at 19:34 into the third.

The referees were busy during the game, as 17 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest.

The London Nationals were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. London had been averaging 26 minutes in penalties per game. The Nationals bested their season scoring average. This season, London averages three goals per contest. The Nationals took advantage of St. Marys' penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities.

London additionally got points from Pieter Schinkelshoek, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Thomas Menechella also scored for London. More assists for London came via Steven Taylor, who had two and Jake Monaghan, Noah Schwartz, Paul Hopkins, and Derek Todosichuk, who contributed one each.

The Lincolns forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. St. Marys surpassed its season average of 22 penalty minutes per game. London was unable to stop the Lincolns from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Marys eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

The Lincolns were led by Shayne Rhyno, who grabbed two goals. Rhyno scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:40 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Marys. A hooking penalty on Taylor had put St. Marys on the power play. Reid Oliver assisted on the tally. Rhyno's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 St. Marys with 8:26 left in the second period. The Lincolns had gained a power play chance when Monaghan was whistled for high sticking. Mitchell Berzins picked up the assist. St. Marys got a goal from Mitchell Fitzmorris as well. In addition, St. Marys received assists from David Sproat and Bryan McCauley, who each chipped in one.

Taylor Edwards made 30 saves for the Nationals on 33 shots. For London, Greg Staeger and Clark West were ejected from the contest. Craig Wood turned away 14 pucks between the pipes for St. Marys. The Lincolns registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Team's Rhyno and Sean Consitt were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
