Elmira blows out Waterloo, 7-3

The Elmira Sugar Kings had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-3 win over the Waterloo Siskins.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 27 penalties during the game.

Elmira's offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 48 shots put on Waterloo's net. The Sugar Kings outdid their season average for goals scored. Elmira has scored at the pace of four goals per game during the current campaign. The Sugar Kings had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances. Elmira was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 30 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Michael Hasson, who totaled six minutes in penalty time with three minors.

The Sugar Kings were unable to stop the Siskins from sending pucks towards the net, and Waterloo eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. The Siskins' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Waterloo finished with 24 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Adam Campagnolo, who totaled six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Team could not crack Elmira's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

The Sugar Kings were led by Brad Kraus, who registered one goal and two assists. Kraus scored on the power play 17:16 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Elmira. A broken stick penalty on Eric Fischer had put Elmira on the power play. Brady Campbell picked up the assist. Elmira also got points from Campbell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Hasson, who also had one goal and one assist, Lukas Baleshta, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Andrew Smith, who also registered one goal and one assist.
