Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Guelph Hurricanes defeated the Kitchener Dutchmen in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO). The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.Guelph saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Hurricanes made the score 2-0 on a goal by Mike Iacocca at 12:50 in the second period. Kitchener evened things up at 2-2 on a goal by Steven Jakiela at 14:59 in the third period. Guelph's penalty kill excelled, as the Hurricanes gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. Guelph also got points from Iacocca, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Chris Taylor also scored for Guelph. More assists for Guelph came via Brandon Stewart, who had one. The Dutchmen's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Guelph power plays. Kitchener kept Guelph's goalie busy throughout the game, and Colin Furlong made 37 saves on 39 shots. Kitchener got a goal from Brandon Lesway as well. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Jared Gilbert, David Jennings, Tyler Hoffman, and Dan Campbell, who each chipped in one. The Hurricanes incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Mario Duscio made 26 saves for the Dutchmen on 28 shots. Kitchener incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
