Timpano's big game bests Listowel in 8-2 Cambridge win

Josh Timpano was all over the ice for the Cambridge Winter Hawks, as he tallied one goal and three assists in Cambridge's 8-2 win over the Listowel Cyclones.

Timpano scored short handed 9:53 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. The Winter Hawks found themselves down a man on Michael Christou's inciting an opponent. Cody Gratton picked up the assist. Timpano dished an assist on Trevor Hache's goal that made the score 6-1 Cambridge at 8:28 into the third period. He then added assists on Ryan Clarke's goal at 10:03 into the third and on Christou's goal at 18:31 into the third.

Cambridge pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 30 penalty minutes.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 17 penalties during the game.

The Winter Hawks made Listowel's goalies to work without much rest, finishing with 48 shots and forcing 40 saves. Michael Pesendorfer made 32 stops and Brandon McDonald made eight. Cambridge excelled on the penalty kill, only allowing the Cyclones to get one power play goal on 11 chances. The Winter Hawks found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Cambridge averages four goals per game. The Winter Hawks' defensemen played an important role in the offense, as they chipped in two goals.

Listowel forced Winter Hawks' netminders to work in net, getting 53 shots and forcing 51 saves. Lucas Machalski made 37 stops and Brendan Gorecki made 14. The Cyclones found themselves short handed often, totaling 14 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays. The leading offender was Sam Patterson, who totaled eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.

Cambridge additionally got points from Christou, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Clarke, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Cambridge got a goal from Tyler Snyder as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Christian Barnard, Darcy Meyer, Jordan Pettitt, and Brandon Zimmerman, who contributed one each.

Listowel was led by Brett McGuinness, who racked up one goal and one assist. McGuinness scored on the power play 19:44 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cambridge. The Cyclones earned a power play opportunity when Meyer was put in the box for too many men. Jarrett Kup assisted on the tally. Patrick Bell also scored for Listowel.
