Bowman's big game bests St. Thomas in 4-1 Leamington win

Behind a great game by Kyle Bowman, who had one goal and two assists, the Leamington Flyers defeated the St. Thomas Stars, 4-1.

Bowman beat Michael Slaats with a shot 16 seconds into the third period short handed to make the score 2-1 Leamington. Nicholas Nicodemo assisted on the tally. Bowman dished an assist on Nicodemo's goal that made the score 3-1 Leamington at 5:17 into the third period. He added another helper on Jake Hopfner's goal that made the score 4-1 Leamington at 17:38 into the third period.

Leamington's Colin Greeley was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 30 saves and let only one puck past him. Greeley certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.11 entering the contest.

The Flyers' penalty kill excelled, as Leamington gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Flyers forced Stars' goalies to work without much rest, launching 52 shots and forcing 48 saves. Slaats made 47 stops and Jacob Tugnutt made one. Leamington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Brett Babkirk, who totaled six minutes in penalty time with three minors.

The leading offender was Zack Anderson, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

St. Thomas was led by Marcus Michalski, who scored the team's only goal. Michalski scored on the power play 19:55 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Stars had gained a power play chance when Babkirk was whistled for slashing. Davis Boyer provided the assist.
