Niagara Falls rips Buffalo, 11-2

The Niagara Falls Canucks had a six-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 11-2 win over the Buffalo Jr. Blades.

Niagara Falls got the win on the strength of a great game by Ben O Quinn, who had two goals and two assists. O Quinn scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 32 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-0 Niagara Falls. Cam McLean assisted on the tally. O Quinn's next tally on the power play made the score 9-1 Niagara Falls with 13:10 left in the third period. The Canucks had taken the advantage when Buffalo's Ty Gallagher got sent off for hooking. McLean picked up the assist.

The Jr. Blades' seven penalties came back to haunt them, as Buffalo let up five goals while on the penalty kill.

Niagara Falls' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Canucks had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. Niagara Falls excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Canucks kept the Jr. Blades' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ian Shorthouse made 50 saves on 61 shots. Niagara Falls surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Canucks average 4.5 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Niagara Falls also got points from Peter Hermenegildo, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Cam Stewart, who also had one goal and two assists, McLean, who also registered two goals and three assists to lead the team in points, Drew Berkel, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Grant McLean, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Ryan Wiley, who also had two goals and one assist. Jake Noel also scored for Niagara Falls. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Frank Nemeth, who had two, Sloan Stewart, who had three, and Marcus Quinlin, Brad Kri, Garrett Gallardi, Vito Scaringi, and Rob De Jaray, who each chipped in one.

Buffalo was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time.

The Jr. Blades were helped by Brian Fry, who registered one goal. Fry scored 1:02 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Niagara Falls. Henry Berger provided the assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Jon Haun as well.

Dylan Pietrangelo recorded 19 saves for Niagara Falls. The Canucks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nemeth was ejected from the game. For Buffalo, Ryan Sheehan was ejected from the game.
