WINDSOR STARS ARE BASEBALL CANADA GOLD MEDALISTS
Date: Aug 24, 2013
The Medal Round at the Baseball Canada Senior Men's Championships in Windsor is ready to go, and the match-up that will attract the most attention from Ontario Senior Baseball followers will be the 1 p.m. game that will see the Host Windsor Stars go against the Mississauga SW Twins representing Ontario.
This is the match-up that may well have been the final of the Senior Elimination Tournament in London on Civic Holiday weekend, but of course didn't happpen since Windsor didn't play at elims because of their hosting Nationals.
Now you might say this is the unofficial Ontario championship.
Ontario finished pool play with a 4-0 record. On Saturday they defeated Alberta by a 7-1 score in a game that was very close throughout until the Twins scored five times in the bottom of the sixth inning. Adam Paish pitched five innings while Michael Cardinal finsihed up the final two innings. Cardinale closed out all four of the Twins victories in the championships. Shawn Dekundy hit a two-run home run in that sixth innng rally.
The Windsor Stars meanwhile took their first loss in the tournament at the hands of B.C. by a 10-0 score which forced a quarter-final game between Windsor and Alberta. Windsor won 3-2 on Tyler Pulmpton's walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning. Matt Cook pitched nine innnings and Adam Meyers picked up the win with a scoreless 10th.
B.C. will meet Manitoba in the other Medal round game on Sunday morning.
