NEWPORT, R.I. — The next Gulls Solar Signings, powered by A1 Roofing, are pitchers, redshirt freshman Blake Julius from Oklahoma State and Franklin Pierce sophomore Drew DeLucia.

Julius, a Mansfield, Texas, RHP, is a top 15 thrower from the Lone Star State, according to Perfect Game. He is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery.

In his junior year at Legacy High School, he was an All-District 8-5A First Team first baseman and also maintained a 15-3 record on the mound with a 2.60 ERA.

That same season, he aided in his team’s district championship all the way to the state final where Legacy finished as the runner-up.

As of the end of April, DeLucia is 5-3 with a 4.57 ERA in 65 innings. He’s been averaging nearly a strikeout per inning, with his current total coming to 61.

The right-hander ranks among Massachusetts’ top pitching prospects via Perfect Game and was a standout for the 2024 Gulls last season, ending the season with a 5.55 ERA.

As opening day at Cardines Field inches closer, stay tuned for the Gulls’ newest signees, presented by A1 Roofing!

The Newport Gulls, members of the 13-team New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded as the Rhode Island Gulls in 1998 in Cranston, R.I., before moving to Newport in 2001. In addition to recruiting, fielding, and developing a team of the nation’s top collegiate baseball athletes and attracting 50,000 fans annually to Cardines Field, the predominantly volunteer organization strives to benefit the community via summer camps, reading programs, fundraisers, scholarships, and charitable donations – totaling over $1 million since 2001. The Gulls are eight-time champions of the NECBL – the winningest franchise in league history – and were ranked as the overall No. 1 summer collegiate baseball team in the country by Perfect Game USA in 2012.
