Monocacy captured its seventh consecutive "AA" varsity tournament championship in 2024-25, going 17-1 during the regular season and sweeping three tourney contests. They defeated Ballenger Creek 83-68 in a high-scoring title game.
The Mustangs have won 21 straight tournament games and are 140-2 overall during that seven-year stretch. They have also won seven straight Chesapeake division titles along the way.
In this year's championship game against Ballenger Creek, rhe opening quarter was back and forth with both teams holding the lead. Monocacy would make a basket and take the lead, then the Bulldogs fired right back and would snatch the lead back. The 2nd quarter proved to be the difference in the game, with Monocacy exploding for 33 points to the Bulldogs 13. Ballenger Creek battled to the final horn, but couldn't overcome the Mustangs. Tournament MVP, Monocacy's Kyrin Ambush finished with a game high 33 points, and 7 steals This victory makes 4 consecutive championships at Monocacy for Kyrin. Monocacy's Bryden Tema was a close 2nd for MVP consideration, finishing the game with 20 points and 23 rebounds. Ballenger Creek's Za'mari Young opened up the game's scoring with a 3 pointer, the first of his 5 in the game and finished with 23 points. Joziah Wynn connected on 2, 3 pointers for the Bulldogs and finished with 21 points. Mustangs Mason Dykes scored 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, Aaron Gautreaux had 8 rebounds and 4 points, and Sam Chavarro connected from long range scoring 3 points for the Mustangs. Jaylyn Lowe was in attack mode for Ballenger Creek slashing to the basket and scored 15 points. Marcus Jackson scored 6 points, 2 from Zayden Adekanmbi and a point for Ethan Brown for the Bulldogs. Monocacy players Aaron Gautreaux, Mason Dykes, Camden Keene, Melphy Gautreaux, and Bryden Tema completed 3 straight championship seasons with the Mustangs.
