Alton (IL) The Alton River Dragons fell to the Cape Catfish 14-5 at Lloyd Hopkins Field before 611 spectators at Lloyd Hopkins Field on Monday.

The game was scoreless until Cape plated seven runs in the top of the sixth.  The Catfish would lead 13-0 before the River Dragons had their own big inning in the home half of the eighth,  Cape tacked on a run in the ninth to finish the scoring.

Erik Broekemeier had two hits, including a three-run homer to right center in the eighth.  Victor Heredia went back-to-back with Broekemeier, blasting his first homer of the season immediately after.

Pitcher Jackson Parrill was outstanding through the game’s first five innings before struggling in the sixth.  He also benefited from a strong defense behind him.

Left fielder R.J. La Rocco picked up another outfield assist, throwing out a runner trying to score from second. Centerfielder Blake Burris made a full extension diving catch and shortstop Chase Bloomer played a few plays very smoothly.

Unfortunately it wasn’t enough as the Prospect League leading Cape Catfish were too much and eventually broke through.
