Alton (IL) The Prospect League leading Cape Catfish denied the Alton River Dragons a winning streak, defeating them 7-3 on Thursday.
Alton had won consecutive games and was looking for their first winning streak since June and things started well when Bryce Zupan drove in a first inning with a ground rule double to left.
However, Cape tied the score in the second and eventually built a 7-1 lead.
Alton got runs back in the fifth and seventh but wasn't able to muster much that was sustained.
Zupan finished with three hits. R.J. LaRocco had two hits, including a double and a RBI single.
In his 2023 debut, Blake Burris had a single, walk and scored a run. Fellow Edwardsville native Drake Westcott reached on two walks.
On the mound, Luke Gasser pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth, followed by a scoreless ninth from Victor Heredia.
