Quincy (IL) The Alton River Dragons split a doubleheader at the Quincy Gems on Sunday. Winning game won 11-3 before falling 8-11 in the nightcap.
It was the team’s first doubleheader since the 2021 season.
Quincy took a back and forth second game, breaking an 8-8 tie with a three run bottom of the sixth.
Jake O’Steen drove in two runs in the loss.
In the first game, the River Dragons bats dominated in an 11-3 victory. The 11 runs matched a season high, while the 16 hits established a new season high.
Eli Hoerner went 4-4, with two steals and three runs scored. Dominic Decker and Victor Heredia each had three hits.
Heredia, playing shortstop also kicked started three ground ball double plays.
On the mound, Aiden Joaquin was fantastic, allowing one run, scattering seven hits and walking just one over five innings.
