Quincy Stuns River Dragons in Extra Innings

Date:  Source: Alton River Dragons

Alton (IL) The Quincy Gems rallied from an eight-run deficit and defeated the Alton River Dragons 12-8 in 10-innings at Lloyd Hopkins Field on Monday night.

Alton led 8-0 after six innings before Quincy scored three times in the seventh to cut the lead to 8-3. The River Dragons still led by five runs entering the ninth, but Quincy stormed back to tie the game, equalizing the score on a two-out infield throwing error that scored the 7th and 8th runs.

The River Dragons had a chance to walk off the game in the bottom of the ninth. Dominick Decker pinch hit, and laced a single to center field.  Steals of second and third put him 90-feet away with only one out.  However, he'd be stranded there.

Quincy pounced ahead with four in the 10th and Alton couldn't get a rally going in their half.

The loss spoiled a strong outing from starting pitcher Alex Renfrow who allowed no runs over five innings.  Offensively, Brayden Caskey had a homer and a RBI single.  R.J. LaRocco extended his hitting streak to seven games, with a double and single.  He had two RBI in the game.
