With 8 games played, Army is holding the number one spot by one point over Siena. The Saints and the Knights opened the season with a two-game series in September, which saw the nights securing one win in overtime and another in regulation. Army wrapped the semester with another two-game series against Clarkson in which they earned a 4-3 victory in overtime and a convincing 6-0 win in the second contest. Siena has earned some big wins this season as well defeating Sacred Heart 2-1 and earning a late split with Montclair State prior to the Thanksgiving break. With 8 games played, Siena has 4 games remaining against Central Connecticut State, and Sacred Heart, as well as, two against Clarkson in January. Siena has an opportunity to finish the season as one of the top two seeds pending their outcomes, as well as Army's.
Two teams that have flown relatively under the radar so far have been Sacred Heart and Clarkson with only 6 league games played. Both the Knights and Pioneers could also play leapfrog into either of the top two spots if they get a little help and secure wins in their remaining 6 contests. CCSU also has only 6 games played thus far and could make a push into playoff position, bypassing either or both, Montclair State and Marist. The Blue Devils have yet to secure a league win but have played much better hockey toward the end of 2022.
Montclair State currently sits in 5th place and could secure the postseason with one more win against Marist or CCSU. Marist, holding the 6th and final playoff spot, can also secure a spot in the postseason with victories against both Montclair State and CCSU and some help from Montclair State's opponents.
While nothing is certain in terms of seedings and playoffs just yet, the second half of the season will be anything but boring as teams finish out the season in February.
