TOP MLB DRAFT PROSPECT TREY DOMBROSKI IS IN COMMAND

Former ABCCL All-Star and Manasquan, NJ native Trey Dombroski has been shooting up MLB
Draft prospect rankings since 2021. Rated with the best command in the class according to
MLB.com, he projects as a future major league starting pitcher.

Dombroski, a 6’5” left-hander, played in the ABCCL in 2020 with the Giants and made the
North Division All-Star roster. In that season, he made five appearances and four starts over 16
innings pitched. The southpaw struck out 29 batters and walked just five, while recording a
WHIP of 1.06 to go with a 3.93 earned run average.

Building off the success in the summer of 2020, Dombroski turned into one of the elite college
pitchers throughout the country.

With an arsenal of a fastball that can top out at 93 mph, a curveball and slider that scouts grade
as above average, and a changeup, Dombroski finds success in getting batters to whiff or hit
weak ground balls.

In an increased workload in his sophomore season at Monmouth University, Dombroski led the
Hawks staff in innings pitched and drastically improving all statistical categories. Dombroski
brought his ERA down two full runs from his freshman season to 2.73, punching out batters at a
much-increased clip, and decreasing the rate at which he allowed baserunners.

“Hard work, dedication, passion, and all the coaches that have influenced me helped me
develop along the way,” said Dombroski.

However, a change in his plan of attack against opposing batters deserves the most credit to
Dombroski’s transformation as a pitcher.

“My mentality on the mound is to get strike one and get two strikes as quick as possible,” said
Dombroski. “When you get to two strikes, hitters have a tough time getting their best swing
off.”

The most staggering improvement in his sophomore year was hit limit of walks. Dombroski
allowed just eight free passes in 52 2/3 innings, good for a BB/9 rate of just under 1.4. For
context, only Aaron Nola and Jameson Taillon give up walks at a better rate this year in the
majors. Getting down in the count early and knowing that Dombroski won’t let you off the hook
spells trouble for hitters.

Dombroski took another huge step in the summer of 2021, this time reporting to the Cape Cod
Baseball League, where he would win the Pitcher of the Year honor for the 2021 season. He
continued to improve in all aspects of pitching while playing for the Harwich Mariners.
Dombroski recorded a BB/9 of just 0.7 in 37 2/3 innings pitched and an incredible 1.19 ERA
against some of the best talent in all of college baseball.

In this past spring with Monmouth, Dombroski posted similar stats to his huge sophomore year
over a much larger sample size. Making 15 starts over 95 innings, the 21-year-old posted
another season with great command, setting a school record 120 strikeouts paired with 14
walks. His performance on the mound was recognized across all of Division I, earning plenty of
honors including the MAAC Pitcher of the Year and a selection as a  2nd team All-American by
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Now as the MLB draft approaches, the projections for Dombroski vary. With an elite ability to
pump the zone, even without overpowering velocity, some evaluators believe he can be drafted
in the first two rounds that will take place on Sunday night. The Athletic has Dombroski ranked
as the #52 prospect in the entire class. There is not a clear favorite at any position in this 2022
class, so truly anything can happen on draft day.

No matter what unfolds or when Dombroski hears his name called, his excitement to start
playing professional baseball will be high.

“The entire pre-draft process has been awesome because I have been able to meet some
awesome people and develop relationships that will last a lifetime,” said Dombroski. “I’m so
beyond excited, but I am most excited for my friends and family because they are always there
for me.”

Rounds 1 and 2 will be televised Sunday night at 7pm on ESPN and MLB Network. Rounds 3-10
will be Monday at 2 p.m., with the remaining Rounds 11-20 taking place at the same time on
Tuesday.
