Players of the Week

The ABCCL has named John Wade (Wall Clippers), Jakob Anderson (Legends Baseball), Collin Feeney (Legends),and Alec Schwartz (Garden State Junebugs) as this past week’s players of the week.

Get to Know the Player: John Wade

Brick Township native, as well as Brick High School graduate, John Wade, is a rising junior at Brooksdale Community College. He is currently entering his second summer as a first baseman for the Wall Clippers. With a batting average of .412, four home runs, and seventeen runs batted in, Wade is without a doubt an incredible asset for the team to have back this summer.

As a second year player with the ABCCL, Wade shared that his favorite part of his time with the Clippers is the competition not only between the league’s other teams, but with his own teammates. When asked who his biggest role model in baseball was, Wade responded his batting coach, Mike Condon. He admires Condon for all he has taught him on and off the baseball field from play decisions to life decisions.

Though unsure of where he will be taking his baseball skills next, his goal following this summer is to further his academic, as well as athletic abilities, at a four year university next season. John continues to be a valuable asset to both the Clippers, and the ABCCL as a whole, and the league is beyond excited to see how he performs for the remainder of the season.

Get to Know the Player: Jakob Anderson

Entering his first year of college baseball on a major high note, incoming freshman, Jakob Anderson, has been named as an ABCCL pitcher of the week.

Coming to the league from Middlesex, NJ, Anderson is a rising freshman at NJIT. He is currently in his first year with the ABCCL, as a pitcher for Legends Baseball. When asked who his biggest baseball role model was, he responded with Aaron Nola due to how much he enjoys watching him dominate the competition every game. This is extremely on brand for Anderson, as he has pitched four games, and led his team to three wins while never allowing any runs with twenty nine strikeouts.

Anderson has begun his collegiate career successfully, but acknowledges this summer is all about learning for him. He explained that his favorite part of his time with the Legends so far is learning from his coaches, as well as teammates. His biggest goal is to prepare himself for college baseball.

Get to Know the Player: Alec Schwartz

Manalapan NJ native, and Freehold Township High School graduate Alec Schwartz has been named ABCCL player of the week. He is a rising senior at The College of New Jersey, and his goal for the summer is to have an extremely strong senior year. So far this season, he has been doing just that. Schwartz has pitched three games, and led the team to win each time. He has an era of 1.38, as well as sixteen strikeouts. As for his time with the ABCCL, Schwartz is currently in his third season with the Junebugs. He praises the atmosphere created by the ABCCL. His favorite elements of this are the league’s fun and strong competition among teams, and the group of players it has brought together. He also credits Coaches Davis, Tavares, and Lavine for their contributions to his experience with the ABCCL.

As for his pitching mentors, Schwartz cites Matt Harvey, but has recently shifted more towards Gerrit Cole. He “loves the way they both pitch, they challenge early with their fastball and use their off speed to make you make a mistake.” Schwartz has been a valuable player to the league throughout his tenure as a Junebug, and is sure to finish out his time with the ABCCL strong.

Get to Know the Player: Collin Feeney

Rounding out this week’s players of the week is Collin Feeney. Feeney is a junior at Ithaca College, originally from Ridgewood, NJ. Currently playing for Legends Baseball, Feeney has a batting average of .350, and has proven to be an extremely valuable asset to the ABCCL.
