Miami, FL- The Bulls headed to University of Miami’s home rink on Friday, November 5th for their first match-up this season. USF started off the weekend strong with an exciting 11-2 win over the Hurricanes.
During the first quarter of the period, USF had possession in their offensive zone, trying to make plays and get the first goal on the board. Once they found their rhythm, the Bulls took off and showed no mercy to Miami. USF’s #4 Keith Moss, #24 Zach Parker, #8 Adam Kupferman, and #28 Alexander Rhoads all got the puck to the back of the net, taking the lead with seven minutes remaining in the first. Miami was able to get the last goal of the period, bringing the score to 1-4.
The second period had plenty of opportunities for playmaking with either team taking control of the puck in their offensive zone trying to get another one on the board. USF’s #12 Trevor Woodall was on a roll and put up two more goals for the Bulls, ending the second period with a comforting lead of 6-1 over the Hurricanes.
Miami was able to sound their goal horn early in the third period, and brought the score to 2-6. The Bulls made a statement, adding five more goals to the board from #22 Kenneth Weightman, #6 Cameron King, #11 Kevin Holman, #9 Owen Welch, and #26 Dylan Hultberg. USF’s goalie #31 Matthew Richard stopped 24 of 26 shots throughout all three periods of play. The Bulls had their highest score this season within this game, and showed Miami just how much potential they have for their season.
Miami, FL- With a staggering win over Miami on Friday night, the Bulls were looking to keep that same energy for their second game over the weekend with the Hurricanes on Saturday, November 6th and bring home another win.
Miami was looking to split the weekend and started off the first period strong with two goals in the first half, and USF’s #28 Alexander Rhoads responded bringing the score up 1-2. The Hurricanes weren’t backing down, and added another two goals to the board keeping their lead 4-1. With just under five minutes to go in the first, #11 Kevin Holman brought the deficit back to 2 goals.
With a change in net from #33 Sean Jenal to #31 Matthew Richard, the Bulls had some catching up to do in the second period. Both teams were struggling to keep the puck in their attacking zone within the first few minutes, but once the Bulls put one up on the board, they stepped on the gas and left Miami in the dust. USF’s #28 Alexander Rhoads put another three goals up, and #7 Zachary Slezak, #25 Danila Mikheev, #24 Zach Parker, and #5 Scot Nelson all found the puck to the back of the net taking the lead 9-5 with Miami adding one halfway through the second.
The first half of the third had no major plays from either team and possession going back and forth. Miami was able to add another goal, with USF’s #5 Scot Nelson and #12 Trevor Woodall responding with one of their own. With under a minute to go, Miami was able to get one last shot off and end the game 7-11, giving the Bulls their second win of the weekend. USF’s goalie #33 Sean Jenal stopped 12 of 16 shots in the first period, and #31 Matthew Richard stopped 13 of 16 shots in the last two periods of play.
The USF Bulls are taking on the University of Central Florida Knights for the second time this season at the RDV Sportsplex Ice Den on Saturday, November 13th at 9:00p.m., and on Sunday, November 14th at AdventHealth Center Ice at 12:00p.m with some special guests attending.
