Miami, FL- The Bulls travelled to Miami on Friday, February 3rd for their weekend matchup against University of Miami. USF started the weekend off with a huge win of 11-4 over the Hurricanes and extending their win streak.
During the first half of the period, the teams were both finding their pace and fighting for time in their offensive zones. With a Hurricanes player being called for unsportsmanlike conduct, USF saw their opportunity to be the first on the board. Flying into their zone, #27 Andrew Ward passed the puck to #23 Charles Rongo and chipped it right to the back of the net with one second remaining on their power play.
Starting off the second period strong, #27 Andrew Ward sniped one from a sharp angle making the score 2-0. Just a few minutes later, Miami got one on the board to cut the Bulls’ lead in half. Another penalty from the Hurricanes meant the Bulls were able to get another power play goal. #20 Andrew Miranda got control of the puck from #25 Danila Mikheev near the blue line and shot it straight past UM’s defense bringing their lead to 3-1. On a breakaway, #7 Zach Slezak sauced the puck over a UM defender down on the ice to #24 Zach Parker to fake out the Hurricanes’ goalie and make the score 4-1.
Following Miami’s second goal, #4 Keith Moss took a shot from the blue line and #22 Tyler Stowe was able to stuff the rebound into the net bringing the score up to 5-2. Two more penalties for the Hurricanes gave #27 Andrew Ward and #18 Alden Spratt the opportunity to add to the scoreboard. Miami was able to get one more before ending the period.
Opening the third period, #8 Adam Kupferman came up through the middle of the lane and tapped another one in for USF. With a penalty kill for the Bulls, the Hurricanes were able to score on their advantage. During the last few minutes of play, Miami pulled their goalie, and #25 Danila Mikheev added an empty netter to the scoresheet making it 9-4. Just under half a minute, #25 Danila Mikheev made a pass through UM players getting the puck to #11 Kevin Holman sending it straight to the net, and to add some more flair to the game, #25 Danila Mikheev added one more goal with three seconds left to end the game with an 11-4 win. USF’s #33 Sean Jenal stopped 23 of 27 shots on goal to help secure the Bulls’ win.
Miami, FL- After their dramatic win over UM on Friday night, the Bulls were looking to keep that energy for another big win against the Hurricanes for their second game of the weekend on Saturday, February 4th.
Getting the first goal of the game, #25 Danila Mikheev played the puck behind the net sending it to #11 Kevin Holman and tucking it into the back of the net. Within four minutes, #20 Andrew Miranda got a natural hat trick with the assists from #23 Charles Rongo on all three, #11 Kevin Holman on the second, and #18 Alden Spratt on the third.
With #20 Andrew Miranda on a roll, he was able to get one more goal bringing the Bulls lead to 5-0. The Bulls weren’t slowing down and with a centering feed to #11 Kevin Holman from #25 Danila Mikheev, they made the score 6-0. On a breakaway, #7 Zach Slezak passed the puck to #24 Zach Parker feeding it back to Slezak to fake out UM’s goalie and give the Bulls a 7-0 lead. A penalty for roughing was called on the Hurricanes and playing tic-tac-toe around their offensive zone was #25 Danila Mikheev to #3 Logan Breen and sending it to #6 Cameron King for a slapshot. Switching spots, #7 Zach Slezak was wrapping around the net and competed a spin pass to #24 Zach Parker with an open lane getting their last goal of the game.
In the third period, Miami was able to get one on the board and ended the game 9-1, giving USF a sweep to end their weekend series. USF’s #31 Ansel Triebe-Pay stopped 27 of 28 shots to aid in another Bulls’ win.
The USF Bulls will be taking on the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles at Daytona Ice Arena on Friday, February 10th at 7:00p.m. and at AdventHealth Center Ice on Saturday, February 11th at 8:15p.m. for their last home game of the season. The Bulls will be recognizing their seniors for their accomplishments and dedication to the team on Saturday night.
