It was an emotional finish to the Bees first season in the Prospect League, giving a big ole home crowd a win over Quincy 11-5.
The Bees took control early with a five run first inning and never looked back. Burlington started things off with a fielder’s choice RBI from Dylan Hale. Jackson Jones started a two out rally with an RBI single to make the score 2-0. Rome Wallace crushed a double off the right field wall and a two-run single from Justin Baehler gave the Bees their big lead.
Quincy responded with a bases loaded walk in the second to score a run, but Burlington answered with two runs on two wild pitches to go ahead 7-1.
Quincy fought their way back with a four run fourth, which included a two-run double from Matt Schark. The two RBIs brought Schark’s RBI season total to 68 on the season to break the Prospect League single season record and get Quincy back within two runs.
Burlington regained control with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Sam Monroe scored on a double steal. A fielder’s choice RBI from Rome Wallace put Burlington back ahead 9-5.
Dylan Hale had a RBI double in the fifth and eighth for two key insurance runs to help the Bees hold on for the win.
Ricky Arthur earned the win, going five innings, allowing five runs (three earned), eight hits, two walks. He struck out a season high five batters. Jackson Gray had a near perfect relief outing in front of his hometown crowd. Gray went 3.1 innings, allowed just a hit, a walk, and struck out one.
Zane Zielinski finished off the season with another great night at the plate, going 3-4 with a season high four runs scored and a walk. Dylan Hale went 3-5 with two doubles and three RBIs. Rome Wallace went 2-5 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored.
