Burlington dropped a key game to Quincy Thursday night. Jake Skrine led the scoring off with a two-run home run in the top of the second for his ninth of the season, and his fifth home run in his past 10 games, posting Quincy to a 2-0 lead in a game they would win handily 7-2.
The Bees scored their only two runs of the game in the second. Rome Wallace was hit by a pitch with two out. He stole second, his sixth stolen base of the season. Justin Baehler drove in him in with a single for his second RBI with Burlington. Kory Olsen got his first hit with the Bees on a double to left for his first RBI to tie the game at 2-2.
Quincy answered right back in the third with a pair of runs. Matt Schark drove in Ryan Hutchinson on a sac fly to put Quincy back ahead 3-2. After back to back walks, Alex Harbin delivered his first RBI of the season on a double to put the Gems back ahead by two.
Quincy took control in the fifth, capitalizing on a rough inning from Kyle Maurer. Maurer gave up a single, walked back to back hitters to load the bases. Tyler Carpenter got a great jump on a wild pitch and managed to score to make it 5-2. Maurer surrendered his third straight walk to load the bases again, and Jadon Arakaki got hit by a pitch to make the score 6-2.
Quincy added a run in the eighth to help seal the deal. A leadoff triple from Hutchinson set up Schark who drove him in a fielder’s choice. The RBI gave Schark his league leading 66th of the season, tying him for the Prospect League single season RBI record.
Brady McLean took the loss, going four innings, allowing four runs, four hits, five walks, while striking out four. Dylan Hale made his Bees pitching debut throwing the final two innings, allowing a run, a hit, two walks, and striking out two.
The Bees and Gems go at it again Friday night in Quincy.
