The Burlington Bees were down big early, could not muster a hit until the 7th inning and simply could not recover against the Cape Catfish who swept to a 10-4 win.
An error by Jackson Jones would be costly in the first inning, as the Catfish score four unearned runs. Cape used three doubles and a home run from Noah Jacobson to strike for five in the opening frame. They added two more runs in the third on an RBI single from Zack Beekmann and an RBI double from Grayson Taylor to take a commanding 7-0.
The Bees finally broke through on a single from Mason Land giving the Bees their first hit of the game. Parker Rowland followed with another single. Burlington loaded the bases after an Austin Simpson walk. That set up Ben Nippolt who delivered on an infield single to get the Bees their first run of the game. Marcos Sanchez drove the second run on a bases loaded walk before Reid Halfacre got Burlington back in the game. Halfacre delivered a two-run single, and the Bees had closed the gap to 7-5.
The game would then go into a 46 minute weather delay. When it resumed the Catfish struck for 3 runs in the top of the eighth to regain control. Burlington added a run in the 9th on a fielder’s choice from Halfacre, but that was all they could put together.
In just his second appearance of the season, Brady McLean pitched 4.1 innings out of the bullpen, gave up no runs, four hits, a walk, and had six strikeouts. The Bees will wrap up their homestand tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. against the Springfield Sliders.
