The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, went 3-3 in the fourth week of the Prospect League season, beating Danville and Terre Haute on the road to finish up the six-day stretch of games. Chillicothe is now 5-12 on the season.

The week started with back-to-back games at home against the West Virginia Miners at VA Memorial Stadium. The Paints trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth in Tuesday's matchup, thanks to strong performances by pitchers Jake Norris and Dane Armbrustmacher.

Nathan Karaffa led off the ninth with a walk for the Paints, scoring two batters later on a Jackson Feltner double, tying the game 1-1. Kent Reeser entered as a pinch runner for Feltner, scoring on a walkoff single by Mitchell Vincent, giving the Paints a 2-1 win.

Norris, the Paints' starting pitcher, allowed one run on four hits, walked four and struck out three over 4 2/3 innings. Armbrustmacher earned the win in relief, he didn't give up a run over 4 1/3 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five.

Wednesday's game favored the Miners early, taking a 2-0 lead before the Paints scored on two errors in the bottom of the fourth. West Virginia then answered with three in the fifth and two in the sixth, taking a 7-1 lead.

Chillicothe scored the final three runs of the game with one-each in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, but fell short 7-4. Paints starter Andrew Clelland took the loss for Chillicothe. The Ohio State pitcher allowed a pair of runs on four hits over four innings, walking two and striking out three.

Chillicothe welcomed the league's top offense to VA Memorial Stadium Thursday, as the Champion City Kings came to town. Both teams scored a run in the first innings, the Paints' off a Reeser single, scoring Ryley Preece.

Both teams scored a run again in the sixth inning, with Chillicothe tying the game at 2-2 on a wild pitch.

The Paints took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth. Reeser walked, later scoring on an Alex Ludwick double, but Champion City got a pinch-hit solo home run from Bo Seccombe in the top of the ninth with one out, tying the game 3-3 and sending it to extra innings, where the Kings won the game 4-3.

Chillicothe hit the road Friday, taking on the Danville Dans in a two-game series at historic Danville Stadium. Paints starter Zach Kendall and Dans starter Hayden Birdsong locked into a pitcher's duel, keeping the game scoreless through 5 1/2 innings.

After a four-run sixth for Danville, Chillicothe answered with five in the seventh, taking at 5-4 lead. With one out, Reeser  and Trey Maeker both walked. After a strikeout and a pitching change due to the Prospect League's pitch limit rules, Karaffa was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Colin Summerhill, playing in his first game of the summer, walked to bring in Reeser. Isaac Bair then doubled, bringing home Maeker and Karaffa. An error on the play also allowed Summerhill to score. Jimmy Allen singled home Bair, giving the Paints their first lead of the night.

After Danville tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, the Dans regained the lead with two unearned runs in the eighth, making it 7-5.

Chillicothe got a leadoff double from Ben Gbur in the ninth, scoring one a two-out RBI single by Bair, finishing the scoring with the Paints losing 7-6, a second consecutive one-run defeat.

Saturday night in Danville, the Paints had a breakout game offensively, scoring 17 runs on 14 hits, both single-game highs at that point in the season for Chillicothe.

Down 1-0 in the top of the third, Maeker walked to leadoff the inning and Feltner followed with a double, putting runners at second and third with no outs. Allen loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Summerhill brought home Maeker on a sacrifice fly. Trey Smith reloaded the bases with a single, but was out at second on a run-scoring fielder's choice by Reeser. Allen then stole home as part of a double-steal, making it 3-1 Chillicothe.

Up 3-2 at the start of the fourth, the Paints staged a two-out rally. Walks to Maeker and Feltner and an infield single by Allen loaded the bases. Summerhill doubled, scoring two, and later scoring himself on a single by Smith, making it 7-2.

Danville scored three times in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the Paints' lead to 7-5, but Chillicothe kept scoring. Ludwick singled, stole a base, advanced to third on a walk and scored on a wild pitch, giving the Paints an 8-5 lead in the fifth. Then, in the sixth, Chillicothe sent 15 batters to the plate, scoring nine times on seven hits. Summerhill and Feltner both had two-RBI hits in the inning and eight of the nine batters in the lineup scored at least one run, giving Chillicothe a 17-5 lead. Danville added a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Paints won 17-6. Summerhill collected five RBIs on the game, while Reeser drove in three, Ludwick and Feltner each drove in a pair and Smith collected an RBI as well.

Chillicothe entered Sunday's game against the REX in Terre Haute with just two home runs on the season through 20 games, but that changed early and often at Bob Warn Field.

After giving up a two-run home run to the REX's Rob Weissheier in the bottom of the first, Chillicothe's Maeker hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning, giving the Paints a 3-2 lead. Jake Silverstein led off the third with a solo shirt, his first of the season, Feltner hit his first home run of the season with two outs in the fourth and Silverstein hit his second home run of the game leading off the fifth, giving the Paints a 6-2 lead.

Terre Haute cut the Paints' lead to 6-5 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Paints kept scoring. In the top of the eighth, Chillicothe loaded the bases with no one out a walk and back-to-back singles. Allen followed with an RBI walk, making it 7-5. Silverstein then hit his third home run of the day, a grand slam to center field, giving the Paints an 11-5 lead before an out was recorded in the inning. Two batters later, Reeser singled, scoring later on a two-out RBI double by Ludwick, making it 12-5.

The REX scored a couple runs in the bottom of the ninth, making the final score 12-7 with Chillicothe earning a second-straight road win.

The Paints now own a 6-4 record on the road this season. Chillicothe started the week with a league-worst .219 batting average and, after hitting .278 as a team in six games last week, they now have a .238 average, up to 14th (out of 16) and only .004 from jumping two more spots.

Jake Silverstein hit .667 (4-for-6) with three home runs, including a grand slam, six RBIs, a double and three runs scored. Ludwick hit .429 (9-for-21) in five games, scoring five times and driving in three. Feltner hit .400 (8-for-20) with four doubles, a home run, four RBIs and seven runs scored.

The Paints are back home at VA Memorial Stadium Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday this week. All three games start at 7:05 p.m.
