BEES HAVE NO MERCY ON CLINTON

Date:  Source: Burlington Bees

Oh my, which story to tell!  Burlington pitching combined to hold the Clinton LumberKings to one hit in a 10-run mercy rule win, 12 to 2.  Burlington hitting lashed Clinton pitching for the 12 runs on 12 hits, including home runs by Kevin Santiago, his 3rd and Jackson Jones, his 5th.

Jalen Evans got the win.  Making his first appearance for the Bees, he started the game, went 5 innings, allowed one hit, walked 4 and struck out 4.

K J Baker came out for the 6th.  The big lefty went two innings, allowed no hits, walked 1 and struck out 3.

Jackson Gray pitched the top of the 8th to the tune of no hits, no runs, no walks and a strikeout.

The offense opened the contest with 3 runs in the first.  Reid Halfacre singled, Mason Land walked and both runners advanced with stolen bases.  Jackson Jones walked to load ‘em.  Austin Simpson took an RBI hit by pitch.  Kevin Santiago singled, driving in the first if his 4 RBI.  A one out Ben Nippolt walk drove in the final run of the frame.  3-0 Bees.

Burlington continued to roll in the second.  The Bees put up 4 more runs, highlighted by Santiago’s massive blast over both walls in left field.  7-0 home team.

Clinton scored on a one out Luke Ira two run shot in the 4th. But, that was it as the Bees bullpen was stellar.

Burlington tacked on four more in the home 7th, with the help of Clinton pitchers wildness. All four came across behind RBI walks.

The Prospect League uses a mercy rule, and Jackson Jones put it in play in the eighth when he absolutely mashed the first pitch he saw off the scoreboard.  Bees win 12-2.

Santiago was 3-4 for the day.  He had 4 RBI.  Halfacre was 3-5.  Nippolt, who seems to be in the middle of everything lately, drove in 2 runs without a hit by drawing bases loaded walks.J
