The New Tecumseth Civics are very proud to announce the signing of talented veteran forward AJ Ryan for the 2020-2021 GMHL Season.

Ryan, from Tecumseh, Ontario joins the Civics after a very impressive junior career where he had 148 points in 178 games spread out over Junior ‘A’, Junior ‘B’ and Junior ‘C’ programs over the last 4 seasons. Ryan was set to play NCAA lll this season at SUNY-Oswego before committing to the Civics.

The talented forward started of the season last year in the Ontario Junior A Hockey League (OJHL) where he was an alternate captain of the Cobourg Cougars and had 16 points (5G, 11A) in 22 games, before he finished the season off in the Greater Ontario Junior B Hockey League (GOJHL) where he had 29 points in 29 games split between the Lasalle Vipers and the Chatham Maroons.

The season prior Ryan had a career year with the Vipers finishing with 60 Points (29G, 31A) in 47 games and finished in the top 20 in GOJHL scoring while leading his team in scoring and to the conference semi-finals in the playoffs that season.

Ryan, who is a versatile scoring forward, is eager to get going with his teammates in New Tec and has big expectations, “Extremely excited to join such a great organization, also really excited to join the boys and get to work on bringing that championship to Alliston.”

Ryan was reached out to by Civics GM Jordan Richardson and had some great conversations with Head Coach Joe Cathcart before joining the team.

Richardson had this to say about the 1999 born Ryan signing with New Tecumseth, “After Oswego didn’t work out the way we wanted it to, AJ and I felt he could benefit from staying in game shape with the Civics this season before returning to NCAA. Bringing AJ to the Civics he will add lots of offense and scoring. AJ is the type of player that we expect to be able to come in right away and make an impact with his play on the ice and his veteran presence in the locker room, talking with AJ it became clear that this was a good fit and that our expectation of winning a championship this season lined up perfectly with AJ’s goal of joining a contending team that can help him with his development towards his next level of college hockey.”

AJ will be wearing #27 for the Civics.

The Civics are very excited to have you join us AJ and we are very hopeful you can be another piece of our championship puzzle this season in New Tecumseth.
