SENIOR SPRING IS "ON TIME"

I have very important and insightful information for you all, based on talking to a lot of you about college and also being at the AZ Fall Classic around a lot of college coaches…

The bottom line is that DECIDING ON COLLEGE RIGHT NOW IS NOT THEIR TIMING!  Your timing is now (or yesterday) but it is critical that you understand their side.

1 - They are just seeing their teams for the first time right now.

2 – They just started Fall Ball, which is 3-4 inter squad games per week where they can see what their team looks like, who can throw strikes, who will be able to defend and what their future needs are.

3 – Some coaches (assistants mostly do recruiting) have been attending recruiting events and have not seen their teams because they are gone on weekends to recruit

4 – This means the coaching staff definitely has not collaborated to decide on their needs from current Seniors!

5 - By the end of Fall, they have their plans for the 2019 season but then it is a whole different question in terms of who can perform and who can’t IN SEASON!

6 – THIS (AND MORE) GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF THEIR TIME TABLE AND WHY SENIOR SPRING IS THE TIME THAT MOST DECISIONS ARE MADE!

In my opinion, the senior family is like a person going to eat breakfast at a “breakfast only” establishment but going THE NIGHT BEFORE!  The restaurant isn’t open, their chef is not prepared to cook, they have nobody to serve or pick up the ingredients in the morning.  No matter how much you may want breakfast the night before, their timing is the morning.  This should be liberating for you and take some of the edge off for you as seniors for now.  Now is not the time to decide or commit for 99% of you but it IS the time to get ahead in terms of exposure, creating relationships and setting the table for your Senior Spring, where most decisions will be made.

We will have meetings for Seniors in November and I highly encourage all who aspire to play college baseball to be there.  There is a lot of information that you NEED to know as you transition from high school to college baseball and the truth is that MOST do a very incomplete and insufficient job of transitioning well and get surprised in the Fall of their first year on a college campus!  Stay tuned…
