CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Troy University's pitching trio of Bay Witcher, Taylor Pridgen and Cam Stewart combined to allow just two runs on three hits as the Cape Catfish (4-2) completed their first series sweep with an 8-2 victory over the DuPage Pistol Shrimp (4-3) Wednesday night, June 4th, 2019
Witcher (1-0) earned his first victory of the summer after throwing a one-hitter giving up two runs in five innings.
Anders Davidson (0-1) suffered the loss for DuPage. Cape scored five runs on five hits in two innings with Davidson on the mound.
Andrew Stone led off the bottom of the first with a single before stealing second and advancing to third on a balk. He touched home to even the score at 1-1 on a groundout by John Behrends.
Cape extended its lead to 5-1 with a four-run second frame. Ellison Hanna II started the inning with a ground-rule double in his first career at-bat with the Catfish. Cape also capitalized on three wild pitches and an error in the inning.
The Pistol Shrimp cut the Catfish lead to 5-2 in the top of the fourth before Cape answered with a pair of runs including one on an RBI-single by Stone. Stone later touched home on a bases loaded walk by Andrew Keck.
The Catfish added another run in the eighth on a Zane Wallace sacrifice fly.
Stone, Turner Fritts and Peyton Faulkner each had two hits in the victory. Cape also finished with five stolen bases, including three by Stone.
