PHASE 1 Academy Honor Roll

One of Toronto’s most anticipated community tournaments wa held this weekend, as the Annual ‘TG4LIFE’ tournament. The age grops varied from as young as 12U to open women’s and men’s.
As we expected, many of the prospective youth were involved in some friendly neighbourhood battles to determine what area has the most talented athletes. The tournament featured a large group of athletes getting ready to play at the pro level including current Toronto Raptors summer league player and ecent Oregon University graduate Devoe Joseph. Multiple NCAA prospects like Kamar Mcknight, Josh bell and Tevin Findlay also prepared for the July live period by playing well throughout the tournament.Games were held in 3 areas across the GTA with the finals held at the University of Toronto at Scarborough.
Both of PHASE 1 Basketball’s teams earned berths into the championships on Sunday, with both the men and the women’s team playing against Antibes. ‘Elite 1’ was led by former NBA player Denham Brown and NBL Standout Kevin Francis. The Lady Elite 1 team hosted well-recognized players in the GTA including recent Cape Breton graduate Jahlica Kirnon and NJCAA Championship winner Jenea Barrett (Trinity Valley C.C)
In the men’s division the up tempo pace of the game kept the crowd on their feet as notable city legends went head to head for bragging rights. The game was filled with lobs, isolation plays, and was a showcase of elite athleticism. PHASE 1’S Elite 1 team eventually defeated Antibes by 14 in final to secure the championship.
On the women's side the, "Lady Elite 1' team jumped out to an early lead to gain control, but Antibes guard Mariah Nunes kept her team in the game. After multiple lead changes the game was forced into overtime, and Lady Elite 1 was able to hold on to a 4 pt win.
