Chapman Hockey falls to LBSU 8-1
Chapman Hockey continued its homecoming weekend with a conference match-up against Long Beach State University. After a loss the previous night to rival Cal Lutheran, Chapman looked to rebound against one of the best teams in the Southern California region. Freshman goalie Noel Zuccaro stopped all 18 shots in the first period and the team was perfect on the penalty kill. However, a deep and well-disciplined 49ers team tilted the ice in their favor for the remainder of the game.
Scoring on Zuccaro remained a tough test for Long Beach State in the second period as it took until 10:17 of the second period before the 49ers broke the scoreless tie. Tyler Galgas scored in front of the net after getting a pass from Francis Lemay, and the Panthers would find themselves down 3-0 after the end of the second period despite three power play chances.
The Panthers found themselves shorthanded only 13 seconds in the third period after a tripping call and Long Beach State capitalized to take a 4-0 lead. Despite avoiding being shut out on home ice after a goal one the power play at 15:21 from Jake Ingrassia from Noah Barrett and Jake Greif, Long Beach pulled out a win over the Panthers 8-1.
Chapman’s Zuccaro was outstanding in nets, stopping 41 out of 49 shots, while the team’s power play went 1 for 7 and the penalty kill went only 2 for 4. Continued work on fundamental hockey and team chemistry will be the focus for the team moving forward.
