Premier Bantam Eagles Take Silver in Western Canadian Final

Date:  Source: Victoria Jr. Eagles

The Bantam Eagles lost 3-2 to Team Saskatchewan in the championship game at the Western Canadian Championships in Kamloops, Sunday, August 20th.  It was a bittersweet loss for the Eagles, who finished second in the provincials, upsetting heavily favourite Coquitlam Reds in the semifinal, then going 4-0 in the Western Canadian Championships until the final day of competition.  The Eagles could not deliver offensively when scoring opportunities presented themselves, leaving 9 stranded base runners throughout the game.  Alex Baan-Meilklejohn got the start, and pitched a complete, 6 hit game, with no earned runs, receiving MVP honours.  Julian Cull led the Eagles offensively, going 3 for 4 at the plate with 2 doubles.  Despite the loss, it was a hugely successful season for the Premier Bantam Eagles, and the players should be proud of how they performed throughout the year.
