Wisconsin’s Jeremy Johnson named Sportop playoff MVP
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that Wisconsin Wilderness forward Jeremy Johnson has been named the Sportop Marketing most valuable player for the 2012 playoffs.
The 19-year-old native of West Fargo, N.D. shared the team playoff scoring lead while helping the Wilderness capture the Bill Salonen Cup, emblematic of SIJHL champions, Wednesday as they defeated the Fort Frances Lakers 4-3 in the seventh and deciding game of the league finals.
In 15 postseason contests, Johnson amassed 14 points on seven goals and seven assists, including four tallies and two helpers in the league championship series.
Johnson will be recognized for his efforts with a gift pack courtesy of Sportop Marketing.
Wisconsin will now gear up to represent the SIJHL, along with the host Thunder Bay North Stars, at the 2012 Dudley-Hewitt Cup April 17-21 at the Fort William Gardens.
They will be joined by the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League and either the Stouffville Spirit or Whitby Fury of the Ontario Jr. Hockey League at the five-day event.
Awaiting the DHC champion will be the opportunity to represent the region at the Royal Bank Cup Canadian national Jr. A championship, which runs May 5-13 in Humboldt, Sask.
