SIJHL announces selections of 1996 birth year player draft

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday the selections of the 1996 birth-year player draft that was held in conjunction with SIJHL meetings staged in Thunder Bay over the weekend.

The draft consisted of each of the SIJHL’s member clubs having the option of selecting players through no more than nine rounds of players who were born in 1996 only.

Each club was restricted to selecting players from within the regional boundaries that the SIJHL teams play in.

Every organization was also allowed the option of pre-selecting one player out of the respective community that the clubs play out of.

Of the drafted players, the SIJHL playing rights of these players belong to that specific team with those clubs having the option of dealing their rights, within the league, should that occur.

The order of selection in the draft was based on how each of the teams finished during the 2011-12 regular season from the lowest point total to the highest.

Additional league announcements, including the 2012-13 schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
