Football New Brunswick Selects Atlantic Bowl Head Coach
March 17, 2017
Football New Brunswick (FNB) is excited to announce the selection of Martin Moir as the Head Coach for the U16 Atlantic Bowl Provincial Team. Moir comes to us from Miramichi as the current Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the James M. Hill High School Tommies.
The Atlantic Bowl will be a 6 a side tournament which will run concurrently with the 12 a side Eastern Canadian Challenge Cup at Acadia University July 16-21. New Brunswick will be joined by teams from Newfoundland, PEI and Nova Scotia.
Moir is honoured to be joining the ranks of Head Coach for the U16 Atlantic Bowl Provincial Team and the Football New Brunswick family. “I look forward to many years of continued personal and athletic growth within the association and continuing to mentor and coach football athletes of all ages in the Province of New Brunswick.”
Martin Moir was born in Ottawa, Ont., and raised in Kanata where he began playing football at the age of 12 for the Kanata Knights and then for the Earl of March Lions in High School. Martin spent most of his field time as a Defensive End until a career ending injury happened in his graduating year, sent him to the sideline. Instead of walking away from the sport he loved, he turned his passion and energy toward coaching. He began coaching with the Sherwood Park Northstars Football Club in Alberta as Defensive Line Coach where he stayed for two seasons, adding Assistant Defensive Coordinator and Special Teams coach to his list of talents.
In late 2016 Martin moved to Miramichi, New Brunswick where high school football was being reborn after a near five-decade hiatus. In need of coaching experience, Martin eagerly stepped in as a member of MIRFA (Miramichi Football Association) and as Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator for the James M. Hill High School Tommies. In 2016, Martins’ 10 Aside Division Tommies, had their first full season of football on the Miramichi, introducing the sport to a new generation of raw and eager athletes. Martin credits his successful first year as the Tommies Head Coach not only to his all “Rookie Team” but to his only other coach on staff and long time friend, Assistant Head Coach/ Defensive Coordinator, Richard Pirie.
Martin has a passion for mentoring and coaching on and off the field. He is currently finishing his education in Human Services (NBCC) and will be working with the Anglophone North School District as an Educational Assistant and Intervention Worker in the Fall of 2017.
