Date: Aug 21, 2020
Worcester, MA- Keene State College Men’s Hockey Club traveled to Worcester Sunday night for a game against the Holy Cross Crusaders. The Owls were looking for their third win in three days to cap off a perfect weekend.
The Owls drew first blood on an early power play when Kurt Mitchell found Derek Clark in the high slot and Clark rifled one past the goaltender to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. The Crusaders fought back though, scoring two goals of their own. The Holy Cross goals were scored by Michael Landolphi and Patrick Driscoll. The period ended with KSC down by a goal.
In the second period the Crusaders scored two power play goals. The first goal was scored by Shane Driscoll, and the second goal came from Ben Lodge. At this point the Owls were down 4-1 and made a goalie swap. Jordan Puzzo replaced John Fields for his first action with KSC. It seemed as if that goalie swap ignited the team as they went on to score eight straight goals over the next 19 minutes of hockey.
Kyle Carignan got the rally started with assists from Kurt Mitchell and Andrew Pierce. Pierce would go on to score two goals of his own, with the second one knotting the game up at 4 goals apiece. Michael Boldy’s unassisted tally (his first as an Owl) gave Keene the lead going into the third period.
In the third the Owls struck four more times in the first 8 minutes. The goals were scored by Lucas Poulin, Kurt Mitchell, Cooper Hines and Tucker Johnson. The Crusaders got a goal back off the stick of Pat Driscoll. KSC scored their 10th and final goal courtesy of Tyler Duquette.
Jordan Puzzo earned his first career win making 13 saves on 14 shots in relief of Jon Fields. Fields made 21 saves on 25 shots. The Owls improved their record to 8-0-1 on the season. KSC plays against Bryant University on Friday November 11th at Keene Ice. Puck drop is at 7:40 P.M.
