Keene, NH- The Keene State College Owls Men's Hockey Club turned in a dominating offensive performance Friday night against the University of Connecticut Huskies to sweep their seasion series with UConn. The Owls scored 10 goals and controlled the game from start to finish.

KSC scored four times in the first period. Cooper Hines got things started for the Owls with assists from Chris Bertone and Brian Mello. Andrew Pierce scored Keene’s second goal, with Kurt Mitchell picking up the helper. Mitchell then scored a goal of his own with assists coming from Hines and Kyle Carignan. After Mitchell’s goal UConn switched goalies. Carignan welcomed the new goaltender to game by putting home his first of the night with Derek Clark and Andrew Pierce picking up the helpers. The assist was the 100th point of Pierce's career. The period ended with the Owls holding a 4-0 lead, and a 15-6 shot advantage.

In the second period KSC tacked on 3 more goals. Kyle Carignan scored his second of the game with assists from Mitchell and Andrew Karlin .Cooper Hines picked up his second of the game with Chris O’Hara grabbing the assist. O’Hara scored his first of the game later in the period with Josh Bell getting the helper. 

Carlin Testa was solid in goal until an injury forced him to come out of the game. Testa made 15 saves on 15 shots in about 36 minutes of play. His replacement, Matt Goss, played the rest of the game making 7 saves on 8 shots.

The third period started with Owls leading 7-0. It only took them 16 seconds to score their 8th goal of the game. It came off the stick of Kurt Mitchell (his second of the game) with the helper going to Kyle Carignan. Chris O’Hara would score the Owls final 2 goals giving him a hat-trick for the night. His second goal came from assists by Tucker Johnson and Josh Bell. O’Hara’s final tally was assisted by Johnson and Jeff Rossman.

Unfortunately the shutout bid was spoiled with about a minute left as UConn managed to squeak one by Goss.

At the final buzzer, the scoreboard showed the Owls scoring 10with the Huskies with 1. With the win Keene’s record improves to 6-0-1 (2-0 division) while the Huskies drop to 3-4-0.

The Owls are back in action Saturday night as they face off against Merrimack in a game the ACHA has designated as the Northeast Game of the Week. Puck drop is at 6:30.
