LES CANADIENNES TO PLAY TWO GAMES IN SAINT-GEORGES, QUEBEC

Date:  Source: CWHL: Les Canadiennes

Les Canadiennes de Montréal will play two regular season games at the Centre Sportif Lacroix-Dutil in Saint-Georges, Quebec, on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 13 at 1:30 p.m.

Les Canadiennes will host the Boston Blades in the weekend matchup, marking the first time the team will play outside the greater Montreal market.

The games, held in collaboration with the THF Saint-Georges (Tournoi de hockey féminin de Saint-Georges), offer hockey fans from the Beauce, Chaudière-Appalaches, and Quebec City regions the opportunity to see some of the best players in women’s hockey. Two key members of Les Canadiennes hail from the area, in reigning CWHL MVP Marie-Philip Poulin (Beauceville) and assistant coach – and CWHL co-founder – Lisa-Marie Breton-Lebreux (Saint-Zacharie).

“It’s an honour to have the opportunity to play at home and have fans in the Beauce area cheering on Les Canadiennes,” Poulin said. “We’re looking forward to a great turnout for what will be another memorable moment in my career.”

Poulin will be one several Olympians among Les Canadiennes slated to hit the ice, a group that also includes: four-time gold medallist Caroline Ouellette; four-time gold medallist Charline Labonté; defenceman Lauriane Rougeau (gold medal, 2014); and four-time Olympic medallist Julie Chu. Canadian Olympian Tara Watchorn, a gold medallist in 2014, will suit up for the Blades.

“I can’t wait for my family and all those in the Beauce region to see the calibre of play in the league and on Les Canadiennes’s roster,” Breton-Lebreux said.

With just 18 months to go until the next Winter Olympic Games, which will be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea, the upcoming CWHL season is an important one as Olympians on both the Canadiennes’s and Blades’s rosters prepare for the journey ahead. The games offer fans a unique opportunity to see numerous familiar faces that they’ve cheered on in the past and will do again in just over a year.

Ticket prices and on-sale locations will be announced soon on the Tournoi de hockey féminin de Saint-Georges website at www.thfst-georges.com. Until then, those interested in more information can send an email to info@thfst-georges.com or call 418-230-2946.

THF Saint-Georges organizers helped bring CWHL action to the area with the goal of promoting women’s hockey and with their sights set on bringing an exhibition game between Team Canada and Team USA to the arena in 2017.
