Merchants Improve League record to 2-1 with win over Pilots

The Merchants made the trip to Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Tuesday to take on the Pilots in their third official League game. The Pilots jumped out to and early 1-0 lead, but the Merchants answered back in the top of the 2nd, stringing together 6 hits with two outs, starting with a bloop single to center by Zach Elder, followed by line drive singles by Alex Beals, Derek Dahlke, and Peyton Renning. All told, the Merchants would score 4 runs in the 2nd inning. Starting Pitcher Dylan Acker would settle in for the Merchants, only allowing 3 earned runs through 6 innings pitched. Meanwhile, the Merchants lengthened the deficit, scoring 3 more runs in the 4th, and 1 in the 5th. Venezuelan utility player Ernesto Rivero got the call in relief, and allowed two earned runs in two innings pitched, shortening the lead to 8-5. The Merchants answered back, tallying up two more runs, with Trey Muilenburg taking the mound in the 9th to close the door. Final Score of the contest was 10-5.
