Merchants Sweep double header vs. Omaha Blue Dogs

Date:  Source: Carroll Merchants

The Omaha Blue Dogs came to town on Saturday to take on your hometown Merchants. A travel complication caused the Blue Dogs to arrive to the field late, so game 1 of the double header was pushed back to 4:30 pm. Game 1 was completed quickly, with starting pitcher Derek Dahlke working fast on the bump, allowing zero earned runs through 7 innings pitched. The Blue Dogs squeaked across two unearned runs in the game, but the Merchant's offense got the better of them, besting Omaha 3-2, with the difference in the game coming on a bases-loaded single up the middle by Pablo Montenegro.

Game two of the double header started on schedule, at 7:00 pm, and it was another pitcher's duel. The Merchant's had another dominant pitching performance form Mark Lesinski, only allowing 1 earned run through 7 innings pitched. The Carroll offense stalled in the early innings, but an rbi single by Matthew Wixion in the 5th tied the game, and a solo homerun by Zach Elder in the bottom of the 6th proved to be the difference in the game. Final score 2-1 Merchants.
