Football New Brunswick (FNB) is pleased to announce its roster for the 2016 Football Canada Cup. The Football Canada Cup is the premiere pre-university football tournament in Canada which annually showcases the top under 18 football players from across the country. This year the week long tournament will be played in Winnipeg, Manitoba from July 9-15th.

Head Coach Chris Hopkins had this to say about the roster selections “I’m excited about the group. We are committed to moving forward and continuing to challenge and prepare these athletes. Choosing the top athletes is difficult because the caliber of football continues to grow in New Brunswick.”

FNB has continuously made improvements to its provincial programs over the past few years. “We are really starting to see the impact our provincial programs are having on players and coaches. Most of the players on this team have been involved in FNB provincial programs for 3 years now and know what to expect” says Josh Harris, the Executive Director of FNB. The coaching staff has worked very hard to identify elite players and will spend the next two months preparing them for national competition. “I would like to thank all the players and families for their support and commitment to our program. Although not everyone makes the team, over 120 athletes received quality coaching and got better through the process” added Hopkins.

2016 Team New Brunswick – Under 18

*Returning Player

This year 17 players are returning from last years’ team including U18 Team Canada offensive lineman Charles Lavallee. Additionally, 16 players from last years U17 NB team made the cut. The Tantramar Titans were the 2015 High School Provincial Champions and have the largest number of players represented with 9. Leo Hayes has 7 players representing Team NB after going 7-0 in last years high school regular season. This U18 team will participate in two exhibition games against Team Nova Scotia in June. Following the games, a final roster of 40 players will be selected to travel to the Canada Cup.

Our high performance programs provide the best opportunity for football players in our province to showcase themselves nationally. As well, it prepares our athletes to compete in the CIS, CEGEP, Junior Football and Atlantic Football League

Since the revival of the U18 high performance program, we have had over 40 players who have gone on to play at the next level. Some alumni include Micheal Bohan (2013 & 2014 AUS Champion, 2013 AUS All Star and 2015 East West Bowl Participant), Andre Goguen ( 2013 & 2014 AUS Champion, 2014 AUS All Star and 2016 East West Bowl Participant) Quentin Chown ( 2013 Canada West Champion, Avg 61 YPG in 2014) and Ian Carty (2016 Under 18 Team Canada).
