The second week of the regular season only involved one game as the Wildcats used their spring break to improve upon some of their offensive struggles of 2015. On Monday, they dropped their third straight to start the season; a 4-1 loss to Cincinnati Christian. Austin Cahill made the start on the mound for the Wildcats, giving up just 2 earned runs in his 4 innings of work. Despite his solid outing, the Wildcats could only manage 5 hits and one lone run against the Cincinnati Christian pitching staff. Senior third baseman Luke Steimle led the Wildcats with 2 hits, including a long triple in the top of the 7th. On the mound, Matt Craig threw 4 scoreless innings for the Cougars, striking out 2 and scattering 4 hits. The Cougars were paced at the plate by shortstop Joseph Stenger, who led all hitters with 3 hits, including two doubles. Jason Gundrum contributed 2 hits while notching the save for Cincinnati Christian.

Cahill, making his first start on the mound in 2015, ran into trouble early in the first inning. After giving up a leadoff single to Craig, Cahill retired the next batter on a sacrifice bunt. Stenger followed with a long double to left center, scoring Craig easily from second base. Shane McLaughlin followed with a single to right field to score Stenger, giving the Cougars an early 2-0 lead. They would tack on 2 more innings in the 3rd inning on an error and a single. With the way Craig was pitching, the 4-0 lead was plenty for the Cougars. Jason Gundrum came on in relief of Craig, throwing 3 innings and allowing just 1 hit.

Finneytown's only threat came in the 7th inning when Luke Steimle led off with a long triple to left center. Fellow senior Michael Whitt drove him in with a ground out to put the Wildcats on the board. However, Cahill and Sam Brumett were retired in order, ending the threat and clinching the victory for the Cougars.

The Wildcats return to action at home on Monday, April 6th against conference rival Reading. Joey Gerbus will make his second start on the mound against the Blue Devils, who return several starters from last year's squad that finished 20-9. Sophomore Jacob Clements headlines their roster as the reigning first team all conference catcher while Kyle Bowling, Logan Benton, and Grayson Roberts also return for the Blue Devils. First pitch is set for 4:30.
